Vulnerable Beings

MAAT (Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology)

Fall, 2021

Vulnerable Beings is a multi-sited project about space and cohabitation, seen through the lens of infectious diseases. It is a platform where artistic, academic, and political perspectives about illness and health can speak to one another. Vulnerable Beings is not about the current pandemic; rather, it places the events of the past two years within a broader spatial and temporal context, problematizing what happened in light of other lived experiences. Vulnerable Beings asks how epidemiological knowledge is produced and spatialized, and whom it excludes; how the language around illness and health can be re-signified, to do away with oppressive metaphors; and how to learn from past and present forms of collective organizing in the face of suffering.
