Fan Riots

SOS 4.8

May, 2014

Fan Riots was developed at the SOS 4.8 music festival. I looked at the main subjects of a music festival: the fans, who are insulted and banalized in equal measure. Fans have generally been catalogued as passive and apolitical agents, uncritical and socially unorganised, with no influence on an artist’s cultural production. However, the fan is an active agent who contributes to the development, elaboration, and review of these productions. The work of a wide range of artists, architects, sociologists, musicians, philosophers or historians who have documented how, in a lot of cases, the fans address projects of personal or collective emancipation in the way that they relate and tie themselves to the “stars” of music, who they have at their disposal in an independent manner, reprogramming the correlations between icon and ideology in the world of quotidian experience
