El Ranchito

Matadero

From May, 2010, to April 2012

El Ranchito is a research and creativity project sponsored by Matadero Madrid that explores alternatives to conventional formats for exhibition and seeks to find new organizational models within cultural institutions. This experimental program began as a research for new working methods to work around the stand-still caused by the economic crisis. Several focal areas were established where El Ranchito could center its attention: a residency program for artists and thinkers; an area for reflection; a series of open calls for local artists or art establishments for work spaces and a collaboration with foreign artists invited to El Ranchito‘s residency; and a program of activities designed in tandem with all of the above.  All of this is formalized in several premises that guide the project’s work: multidisciplinary work, site-specific art creation, collective production of meaning, community building, the importance of the process, and a resource economy.
